Classwork - the tables explained how to do the homework (Thursday's problems from last week's page) and we began our proportions quiz. We will finish the quiz tomorrow!
Homework - finish the proportions worksheet that was yesterday's classwork Classwork - The tables explained how they did the homework problems, and the classword from yesterday was collected. The class worked on writing proportions again - as well as solving proportions that are already written. There will be a quiz on Thursday.
Homework - Thursday's problems from last week's homework sheet. Classwork - Students explained how they did their homework problems from Friday. Then we went over the answers from the front side of Friday's classwork worksheet. The lesson was on writing proportions from word problems - using a "word ratio" to represtent which numbers should go where. It's ok to just put an initial, but students need to be able to see which quanitity goes where.
Homework - finish the proportion classwork worksheet and do Wednesday's problems from last week's homework sheet. Classwork - The students worked on a worksheet solving proportions and explaining how they solved the problems. They also had to see if 2 ratios were proportional, and if they were not, change a number to make it proportional.
Homework - Friday's problems from the HW Sheet (Note - Wednesday's and Thursday's problems will be assigned next Monday and Tuesday since we worked on the poem those days. Classwork - We talked a little more about the "If You Were One Inch Tall" poem assingment. It is due, typed or written neatly, with a picture, on Monday, We also worked more with proportions, seeing how much it would cost, or how much frozen yogurt we can buy.
Homework - finish poem and draw your picture. See Wednesday's post for the poem guidelines. Classwork - We spent a lot of time going over the homework problems from Monday and Tuesday. Students are making errors on problems with negatives so we talked about them. The Team Quizzes were returned. I read the poem "If You Were One Inch Tall" by Shel Silverstein to the class and gave them the assignment of writing a poem if they were a different height. These are the guidelines:
18 lines - 3 stanzas (can be more, but no longer than 1 page) Rhyming is nice but not necessary Proportions must be reasonable typed (12 pt font) or written neatly picture (stick figure ok!) on page The rough draft is due tomorrow, Final due on Monday, December 12. Homework - Rough Draft of Poem, see above for guidelines. Classwork - Today we had a Team Quiz, then were able to start working on homework if we had time.
Homework - Tuesday's problems. Classwork - Students explained the homework from Friday and turned in their homework papers. We are continuing with using proportions to find out what Barbie's proportions would be if she were as tall as the kids are. Then we are going to compare her measurements to the person that was measured's measurement and see if Life Size Barbie would look like a normal person!
Homework - Monday's problems. Classwork - today we went over Wednesday and Thursday's homework, then talked about the measurements we made on Barbie and the person in our pair. We calculated what the measurements should be if Barbie was our size - proportional to what they are on her as a doll. Then we did another set of proportions to scale Life Size Barbie so we could draw her on a piece of 11" x 17" piece of paper, and started drawing her!
Homework - Friday's problems. Classwork - we went over the test to see if there were any questions before turning in the test corrections. Then we began our Barbie Proportions activity. In pairs the students measured Barbie's arm, foot, eye, mouth and also these same measurements on one of the people in the pair. Tomorrow we'll so some proportions to see how Barbie would look if she was the same height as the team person!
